Boiler Sediment Removal Procedure

Boiler Sediment Buildup Removal Procedure

Materials: Scale Kleen, Tub for soaking boiler, rubber gloves, tools, 5 gallons of hot water, baking soda.

  1. Remove boiler from machine

    1. Tip: Before you begin, take reference pictures for reassembly

  2. Remove fittings, elements, and gaskets from boiler

  3. Create Scale Kleen bath (2.2lbs to 5 gallons) Use Scale Kleen instructions on the bottle. https://www.amazon.com/Everpure-EV9798-35-Scalekleen-Scale-Remover/dp/B005INBJKY

  4. Submerge Boiler

    1. If larger than bucket, submerge half boiler at a time


  1. Leave submerged for 1-12 hours depending on severity

  2. Remove boiler – wearing rubber gloves

  3. Rinse boiler thoroughly 

  4. Inspect for approval (scale sufficiently removed) Rinse any extra sediment out.

    1. If scale is sufficiently removed, move on to step 9 

    2. If scale is still present, return to step 4.

  5. Scale Kleen is drain safe, discard in normal waste drain. 

  6. Create baking soda neutralizing bath

    1. 8oz package of Baking soda to 5 gallons of water. Mix thoroughly.


  1. Submerge in baking soda bath for 5 minutes

  2. Rinse boiler thoroughly

  3. Inspect for cleanliness – no scale bits inside boiler, no baking soda inside boiler. 

  4. Re-attach fittings

    1. Use pictures as guide

  5. Re-install boiler

  6. Test machine – verify for leaks, operation.
