What is a Vacuum Breaker?
A vacuum breaker is a valve on the steam tank which seals after enough pressure has built up. As the name describes, the vacuum breaker creates a vacuum once sealed to prevent any back flow from steam steam wand when going from 'on' to 'off'. The valve has a gasket inside which, overtime, will wear out. This part is a preventative maintenance part which we recommend evaluating every 6-9 months and replacing every year.
Replacing Vacuum Breaker
Tools Needed: Crescent wrench
Parts Needed: 46000-50140 Vacuum Breaker, 46000-50150 Copper gasket
Turn off the machine.
Open the steam wand and purge until there is no more steam exiting the steam wand.
Now the tank is depressurized, the vacuum breaker can be removed safely.
Use a crescent wrench to remove the defective vacuum beaker. Note: keep the crescent wrench level to avoid breaking the vacuum breaker into the tank
Wrap the threads of the new vacuum breaker (46000-50140) in three wraps of Teflon tape
Add a copper washer (46000-50150) and screw into the steam tank. Note: Be cautious not to over tighten the vacuum breaker and break the vacuum breaker into the tank.
