Replacing Display Glass, Steam Series

Slayer Steam X, LP, and EP

Removing and replacing Display Glass and VHB adhesive. Steam LP and EP.

It is imperative that the OLED Display Assembly Screens (30005-60110) be removed before applying the heat required to safely remove old display glass.

Time: 45 minutes

Parts:
46005-21010 VHB on Backing Board For Display Screen
26005-10000 Display Glass, Slayer Steam

Tools:
Philips Head Screwdriver, 1.5mm Hex Wrench, Heat Gun, Plastic Wedge (plastic blade, putty knife).

Step 1: Power off machine and remove display.

Step 2: Remove upper and rear display covers to gain access to OLED display screens. Unscrew the two (2) top self-tapping screws holding OLED to assembly base plate. OLED should snap out of place without the need to loosen bottom two (2) self-tapping screws. Disconnect ribbon cables from display. Remove encoder knob with 1.5mm hex wrench.

Next few steps are pictured without the Front Upper Panel attached to display assembly for instructional purposes. Disassembly is not required.

Step 3: With heat gun on low/medium setting begin warming glass surface around perimeter of view finder. Maintaining an even application of heat and movement during entire process. Insert plastic wedge into the upper-right (encoder side) edge of the glass and gently separate the glass from the backing panel down and towards the left.

Step 5: Once the glass is removed. Clean the backing plate of any remaining residue.

Step 6: VHB is asymmetrical. Lay thicker end opposite of encoder knob. Remove top facing adhesive and gently square up new display glass. Once centered, firmly press glass to backplate to ensure an even application.
Take notice of glass finish. The front facing side is smooth and without imperfections.

Step 7: Reassemble display assembly. Careful not to pinch ribbon cables in the process.
