Barrel Switch Troubleshooting - Steam Series
Barrel Switch Troubleshooting
Objective:
Test magnetic barrel switches to diagnose steam solenoid issues.
Time:
15-20 minutes
Tools:
#2 Philips Head Screw Driver
Multimeter
Adjusting Sensitivity
Steam barrel switches are threaded into the housing and are adjustable by screwing in or out. If it's not adjusted properly, it could affect the response of the actuator.
If the steam solenoid isn't engaging when actuating, try unthreading it counter-clockwise so the switch moves further away from the magnet.
If the switch doesn't respond despite adjustment, you'll need to test the functionality.
Testing Functionality
Step 1:
Step 2:
Remove the bottom front panel, being sure to disconnect the LED group lights.
Step 3:
To identify the correct barrel is being used, test the barrel's continuity with a multimeter. Steam barrel switches are N/C (normally closed). It should only be active and have continuity when a magnet is not present. Conversely, there is no continuity when a magnet is present.
Please note, to test this properly you need to remove the barrel from the assembly.
The continuity should reliably change based on the presence of the magnet.
