Drain Steam & Brew Tank(s) - Espresso V3
SLAYER recommends all service be performed by an experienced SLAYER Espresso trained technician. For a technician reference near you, please contact SLAYER Support at (206)-284-7171 (#1 in Directory) or email support@slayerespresso.com.
Objective:
Drain steam & brew tank(s) for service and annual preventative maintenance.
- SLAYER Espresso V3 Preventative Maintenance
- 40000-32050 1/8" ID 1/4" OD EXTREME HIGH TEMP TUBING
- Connects to John Guest drain fittings.
- Recommended length: ~3'
Tools:
- 1/2' Wrench
- 7/16' Wrench
- Large Flathead Screwdriver
- #2 Philips Screwdriver
Step 1 - Prepare Machine:
- Turn OFF power switches.
- Unplug from power source.
- Turn OFF inline water.
- Open steam actuator to depressurize steam tank.
- Remove cup tray and upper front panel:
- Disconnect hot water button!
- Remove side panels:
- Using a large flathead screwdriver. Remove the top two screws and the bottom back screw.
- (Arrows in image below).
When removing side panel. Be careful to slide panel directly UP & OUT of place.
Step 2 - Drain Machine:
- Locate drain valves (yellow or black handle):
- Steam Tank - lower left side of tank.
- Pre-Heat Tank - left side of tank.
- Brew Tanks - lower right side of tank.
- Insert Extreme Temp tubing into each John Guest tubing.
- Push tubing IN and verify a secure connection.
- Slight tug should not release connection.
SLAYER recommends depressurizing steam tank prior to opening steam tank ball valve! For questions or concerns regarding draining steam tank, please do not hesitate to contact SLAYER Support.- Open ball valve (image below):
- Perpendicular = CLOSED
- Parallel = OPEN
Step 3 - Break Vacuum:
Steam Tank:
All SLAYER Espresso machines feature a steam tank vacuum breaker (anti-suction valve). When a steam tank depressurizes (naturally by a deactivated heating circuit or purposefully by deactivating the heating circuit + opening up a steam actuator) the vacuum breaker pin will drop and allow atmospheric air into the steam tank. This air is both crucial for safely depressurizing the steam tank and allowing the tank to drain once the drain valve has been opened.
Saturated Tanks (Pre-Heat + Brew):
SLAYER Espresso machines feature fully saturated brew tanks. During the draining process, simply opening a drain valve will not adequately allow the brew tank(s) to drain. A vacuum essentially retains water in place until exposed to atmosphere somewhere else in the brew circuit.
There are a couple ways to drain the fully saturated pre-heat and brew tanks on the Espresso V3. The step below demonstrates the 'crack a fitting' method:
- Open pre-heat drain valve.
- Locate the pre-heat tank inlet copper tube (image below).
- Place cloth underneath fitting!
- Using a 1/2 wrench, loosen compression fitting.
- As compression fitting begins to loosen the vacuum will break and water will begin to drain.
Step 4 - Complete Drain:
SLAYER recommends beginning draining procedure prior to preventative maintenance service! This allows time for machine to fully drain.
Once drain is complete.
- CLOSE drain valves:
- Reminder, handle perpendicular to valve is CLOSED.
- Disconnect drain tubing from John Guest fittings.
- Reconnect pre-heat tank inlet fitting!
- Compression fitting guide.
Step 5 - Refill:
