Objective:
Remove autofill (inlet) assembly to clean debris preventing solenoid closure.
Symptoms:
- Wet steam
- Water leaking through vacuum breaker / pressure relief valve.
- Steam tank not heating.
- Jot water dispenser and steam wands not functioning.
- Steam tank over pressure.
- HTR ERR, Steam Over Temp, Steam Sensor error.
- Espresso Single Group Error Code Identification
Common Causes:
- Scale from poor water quality.
- SLAYER Water Treatment Requirements
- Debris from water main.
- Particles from improperly flushed filters.
It is recommended during installation or service of water lines to avoid contact with any surface that may adhere debris to water line.
Time:
- 45 mins
Parts:
- Current:
- 99004-10140-LF Steam Fill Assy, 1G (2024)
- Legacy:
- 10999-20191 Solenoid Mount, Body
- 30000-20194 2-WAY SOLENOID VALVE, FORGED FLANGE, 24VDC
- 44005-10090 SHCS,M4-0.7X12MM,18-8 SS (QTY 2)
Tools:
- Vice Grips
- 8" Crescent Wrench
- 7/16" Wrench
- 9/16" Wrench
- 1/2" Wrench
- 3mm Hex Wrench (Legacy solenoid valve.)
- #2 Philips Screw Driver
Step 1:
- Turn OFF heating elements in Advanced Menu.
- Power OFF machine and turn OFF incoming water.
- Remove cup tray and drain steam tank.
- Drain Espresso Single Group
- Actuate steam handle to allow vacuum to break.
Slowly open valve if steam tank is pressurized. Fully opening drain valve can cause drain circuit to flood and possible injury due to sudden release of steam.
Step 2:
- Identify inlet solenoid.
- Unscrew 9/16" locknut and remove solenoid while keeping signal wires attached.
- Brace intake side fitting with a 7/16" wrench and loosen compression fitting with a 1/2" wrench.
SLAYER Single Group (Classics) and pre-2022 Single Group autofill inlet solenoids utilized a solenoid mount and flange style valve. Compression fitting removal is unnecessary to diagnose autofill debris on flange valves. Simply remove valve by loosening the two (2) or four (4) 3mm mount screws. Image below.
- Repeat at inlet body discharge (steam tank intake).
- Loosen each fitting simultaneously to ease removal.
Legacy autofill solenoid assembly:
Current autofill solenoid assembly:
Step 3:
- Once assembly is removed from machine.
- Vice grip valve body and loosen solenoid piston with a crescent wrench.
Depending on model of inlet solenoid; remove flange solenoid valve body from mount base using a 3mm hex wrench.
Step 4:
- Inspect for debris.
- Clean and rinse plunger, piston, and body.
- Clear remaining water with compressed air to ensure any obstructions have been removed.
Step 5:
- Reassemble and install inlet solenoid.
- Tightening each fitting simultaneously for even tension during reinstall.
- Close drain valve.
- Turn ON water, check for leaks, and power ON machine.
- Once steam tank has filled, actuate brew group for 10 seconds, and turn ON heaters in Advanced Menu.
In this step be careful not to overtighten compression fittings!
